What do I need?

Firstly you need a BTb-line account. Buy one here for only £10. This will allow you access at most BT Openzone hotspots.

A laptop computer (PDA's are not supported)

When using BT Openzone, ideally your laptop should be running Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Tablet XP, Linux 2.2 kernal upwards, and Apple O/S 9.0 upwards *.

The BT Openzone service works through your usual web browser. The service is optimised for Internet Explorer 5 or Internet Pocket Explorer.

Wireless LAN Capablity

You will need a wireless LAN card or built-in Wireless LAN Capability. Laptops take PCMCIA cards. Any devices that are IEEE 802.11b and Wi-Fi certified should work with BT Openzone. We recommend the Linksys PCMCIA network card.

To be near a BT Openzone HotSpot

Hotspots are available in selected public locations across the UK. Hotspots extend between 70-100m, enough to cover a large site. See a list of locations here.

* note BTb-line international dialup service is only available on Windows 98SE or higher.
